Malaysia’s First Flying Car Prototype to Be Unveiled as Early as October 2019

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia is expected to launch its first flying car prototype to the public as early as October 2019, marking a major milestone in the country’s exploration of future mobility technologies.

Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof announced in Parliament today that the flying car will be powered by local technology and developed without any financial allocation from the government.

“I’d like to remind members of the House that this air mobility flying car prototype involves not a single cent of public funds,” Redzuan said during the Ministerial Question Time session at the Dewan Rakyat.

“This is a private sector initiative, and it is essential that we continue fostering partnerships with private companies to stimulate this industry in line with global technological developments,” he added.

The statement came in response to a question from Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh (PAS–Pasir Puteh), who asked about the progress of the flying car prototype model. Redzuan explained that the project reflects the government’s broader ambition to create an environment that encourages Malaysians to engage with emerging technologies.

“If we do not create the space, we risk falling behind. That is why we are making every effort to enable local talent to participate in building this industry,” he said. He emphasized that the flying car initiative is moving quickly and the government must act decisively to ensure the country does not miss out on this emerging global industry.

Redzuan had previously urged the public to look forward with a visionary mindset rather than criticize the introduction of flying car technology. The project, he reiterated, aims to place Malaysia at the forefront of advanced mobility solutions and inspire a future-ready generation of innovators
